5 Reasons to Use color by number math sheets
Sometimes I feel like color by number sheets get a bad name. From afar, it looks like students are, well, coloring. However, we as teachers know they are doing so much more! Today, I want to give you 5 reasons why you should consider using color by number worksheets during your math block.
I wanted to explain a few of the benefits that color by number math worksheets have and allow you to rest easy when you assign them to your students. Oh, and trust me, they will thank you!
WHY USE COLOR BY NUMBER MATH worksheets?
Color by number math sheets are the perfect balance of being fun for students, yet still provide valuable math skills practice. They are zero prep and because students can usually see when they’ve used a wrong color, they are self-checking.
1. No-Prep for You, the Teacher!
Color by number sheets are perfect when you want to give students meaningful math skills practice, but don’t have a ton of time to prep a load of materials. You literally print and go with color by number sheets.
2. Students can do color by number independently
Often, when your students are working in math centers or on an activity such as color by number sheets, you are busy providing small group instruction to other students. The fact that color by number sheets are self-checking (when used along with the answer key) allows your students to work more independently so that you’re able to meet the needs of the group you’re working with.
3. Students love color by number math activities!
Who doesn’t love to color? There’s just something so relaxing about it. Even the older grades enjoy opening a pack of crayons and creating a masterpiece! It’s so valuable when you’re able to find math practice that’s meaningful, but also engaging to students.

The holidays in the classroom are always so exciting for students, and color by number holiday themed sheets add to that excitement-but in a good way! You’re students will love the fact that they think they are getting a treat as they color holiday pictures. You’ll love the fact that they’re a bit more calm as they focus on completing their color by number sheets.

5. Color by number sheets are Perfect for early finishers
One of my favorite things about using color by number math sheets are that they’re perfect for students to pull out and work on if they finish an assignment early.
Tip: Print out a few color by number math sheets and staple them together. At the beginning of a holiday or even a testing week, hand them out to your students. Allow students to pull them out whenever they finish an assignment early.
